New PDR (Personal Distance Record)

Our long run this Saturday was a new PDR (Personal Distance Record) for me – 7 miles! The weather called for rain and the high for the day was only 46…gross. We started a little early than normal because Mugsy had a baby shower to attend so promptly at 8:00 AM we set out.

It wasn’t raining yet, thank you weather gods, and we chatted for the first couple miles.

  • Mile 1 – 9:07
  • Mile 2 – 9:14

I have never run this distance before so I wanted to make sure I didn’t burn out early. I found that this pace was sustainable for me.

  • Mile 3 – 9:07 (negative split!)
  • Mile 4 – 8:57 (negative split!)

These miles felt great but knowing we were only 1/2 way through, I made an effort not to speed up too much. It was around this point that I started chewing on my Shot Blocks. I packed 3 Mountain Berry blocks in my pocket and ate them slowly from mile 4 through mile 6.

  • Mile 5 – 9:26
  • Mile 6 – 9:41

Major slow down here. I didn’t even realize we had slowed to this pace until I checked my splits after the run. I am not going to beat myself up over this because both Mugsy and I finished strong.

  • Mile 7 – 9:22 (not the fastest but a negative split!)

And with that, a new PDR was born! I felt great after this run – even better than after the 5k last week. This PDR will be short lived because this Saturday I will be running 8 miles solo in central Florida. It is supposed to be hot and humid so I will not be trying to finish in a certain time. Just finish then relax and enjoy my day!
