It was fun looking back on all of my past times for this race. I really can’t believe this is my 5th year competing in the JCC Triathlon by the Sea. I have trained for this race for the past few months and I feel very ready to compete. I am not in a position to win this race but I am in a position to beat some of my former times. Here they are in all of their glory.

Swim
This is hard to judge because its a pool swim so you never know what will happen. One year I got completely jammed up by the person 3 swimmers ahead of me. The person behind him didn’t pass and we were all brought to a quick stop. I think this was in 2012. I would love to have swim time around 5:15 seconds.
Bike
Lesson learned from last year >> Take bike out of basement before the morning of the race and have someone else check the tires to see if they need air. I did neither of these last year. I was riding along last year and felt very slow. I thought it was me but turns out I had two flat tires. I kind lady cycled up behind me around mile 5 and informed me I was riding on flats. Luckily, I knew where the bike repair gentlemen was stationed and I was really close to him. I rode up and asked if my tires were flat and, while suppressing a laugh, he said yes. I tried to quickly dismount and ended up falling off my bike. Pull it together Emily! The nice gentleman filled both tires and I felt like a speed demon for the rest of the race. I would prefer NOT to embarrass myself again this year and finish the bike portion with a respectable time of 43 minutes.
Run
In the past I have been cautious on the run and by cautious I mean slow. Here’s hoping that all of my half marathon training has made my legs better an running while fatigued. I would like to break the 10:00 min/mile pace and there for break the 35:00 minute mark. I have yet to do this in this race.
I am really looking forward to this race as it is one of my favorites of the year. The weather is looking absolutely perfect as well…perfect for me at least!
Great goals and you can do it!!! I know you can achieve them!! Pool tri swims can be challenging because of the number of swimmers in the pool at one time! XOXO! You’re going to rock it!
Great Goals. NO need to hold back on the run. That is the time to let it rip. The worst that can happen is you walk a little. Best of luck.
And that is what I did!
