1st Day at My New Job

Yesterday was the 1st day at my new job! I am so excited to get started and get used to my new-ish routine. I am not completely sure what the hours will look like or how things are going to work quite yet but hopefully by the end of this short week I will feel a bit more confident!

Last week my new boss reached out and had me answer a few fun questions. I wasn’t expecting this but it was a great way for her to get to know me a little bit better and for my new co-workers to get to know me as well. I figured I’d share them with you and hope you share some back!

What movie could you watch over, and over… and over?

Mean Girls…over and over and over.

What’s your favorite Boston area restaurant?

La Famiglia Giorgio‘s in the North End. Great Italian food in huge portions. Another favorite is Marliave, from 4-6 and again from 9-10 the oysters are half off! I would eat them all if I could.

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

jimmy buffett

The first Jimmy Buffett concert I went to (I think I’ve been to four) was one of the best nights of my life. I went with a huge group of friends durning a summer that we were all super busy with work. It was a great day and night that we all just got to hang out with each other.

What show do you religiously DVR?

Gilmore Girls. Yes, I have seen every episode ten fifty times. SL says he hates it but I think he is really into Rory and Lorelai.

Did you play any sports growing up? Do you currently?

twin lobster half marathon

Why yes, I did. I played soccer until high school then I cheered from there on out. Actually, I cheered from about 5th grade through senior year in high school. Some of my cheering from (ahem…Mugsy) are still great friends today! If you have been reading this blog for any length of time you now that now I run races…triathlons, 5ks, half marathons, obstacle races…you name it!

Coolest place you’ve ever traveled to?

Iceland…hands down! Check out my post on this amazing trip >> Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Last Day in Iceland.

Such a fun way to start my new job!

Energybits Giveaway Winner

Congrats to Tara from Running ‘N’ Reading!

I have been interesting in Energy Bits and appreciate hearing about your experience with them; have thought about buying some but, since they are an investment, I would love to be able to try them first. I usually energize for a workout with a Picky Bar or sometimes a smoothie. Great post!

Please check your email for details!

Energy Bits {Review & Giveaway}

I am always on the lookout for shiny new (or new-to-me) things so when I was given the opportunity to try out Energy Bits I jumped at the chance. The company was kind enough to send me a small tin of bits to test out. I’ve been working out after work more lately (now that I have the time) and have struggled with post-work energy levels which has lead to ho-hum post-work workouts.

Energybits

Enter bits! Energybits are made of spirulina – that’s it! Spirulina is an algae-based superfood that has even been endorsed by NASA! NASA found that 1kg of spirulina has the same nutrients as 1,000kg of ‘assorted veg’! They are also 100% pure, organically grown and certified NON GMO which is hard to find on the veggie front these days!

I love that these little guys have no caffeine (I get enough from coffee), sugar, chemicals, gluten or soy. Now my diet is nowhere near perfect and there are many things I would love to cut out (in theory) but adding a natural source of nutrition and energy in the form of little green bits makes me feel a little better about myself!

thumbs up

Since I am not used to chowing down on algae, it was nice to see that the company offer a few tips to make the transition smooth

  1. Algae is an acquired taste…they recommend against chewing your bits right off the bat. Swallow them like a pill because they taste very green.
  2. For those braver than I, go for the chew but be warned…your teeth will turn green! Just give them a little swish of water post-chew and you’ll be good to go.
  3. Bits can be taken anytime of day! Hooray, one less thing to schedule!
  4. Try jump starting your day with a big old handful of bits. They can help ease hunger and ward off fatigue for hours.
  5. Bits before bed could help you sleep better! I haven’t tried this one yet but I’ll give it a shot.
  6. Get creative by adding bits to yogurt, smoothies (hmmm…) salads (green on green!) or mix them in with berries and nuts.

I enjoyed my bits a few different times including before an evening R.I.P.P.E.D. class, before an evening run and on the train ride home when I felt some afternoon fatigue coming on. The result – excellence! I killed it in R.I.P.P.E.D., had a strong run and perked up on the train. I even got honked at twice by college-age-looking bros on my run! Now I am not going to contribute getting hit on by guys that are 10 years younger than I am to the Energybits but I probably wouldn’t have rocked my run without them that night! Energybits = getting hit on!!

All and I love my bits and will definitely buy more on my own in the future! And now for the fun part…A GIVEAWAY!! I wanted to share the love and giveaway a single serving of bits that the company sent along!

To enter: Leave a comment below about how you energize for a workout. I will randomly pick a winner over the weekend!

Good luck!
